Common Errors
How to fix the errors that most commonly come up for all users
If you’re having trouble using the Change.org website—such as being unable to sign a petition, load a page, publish your petition, or use the promotion feature—there may be a local technical issue. You can often resolve it by following the troubleshooting steps below:
- Make sure you’re logged into your Change.org account
- Try using a different device (we recommend using a computer over a smartphone)
- Sign in using Google Chrome (our site works best on Chrome)
- Clear your browser’s cached images and files. [Here is a guide on how to clear cache and cookies in Google Chrome (external site)]
- Make sure cookies are enabled for Change.org in your browser settings
- Disable any VPN or ad blocker you might be using
- Refresh your browser
- Check your internet connection
- Restart your computer
Common issues when managing or creating a petition
Below are some common causes of errors when creating your petition.
Timeout Errors
Timeout errors are the most common issue, especially with slower or unstable internet connections. If you experience one, close your browser completely, then reopen it and try again from the beginning.
Too Many Decision Makers
Having more than 14 decision-makers can interfere with the publishing process. We would recommend that you narrow your list to 10 or fewer. This helps technically and makes your petition more focused and effective—by targeting the right people who can act on your request.
Clicking "Submit" or "Publish" too many times
It can be frustrating to wait, but please avoid clicking these buttons repeatedly, as it can confuse our servers and cause delays. If this happens, refresh the page, clear your browser’s cache, and try again—clicking the button just once.
