If you want to stop accepting signatures on your petition, you have two options:

  1. Declare Victory – if you have achieved your goal or made progress.
  2. Close Your Petition – if you want to end your petition for any reason.

What Does Declaring Victory Mean?

  • You've accomplished something,
  • Reached your petition goal,
  • Contributed to creating change, or
  • Achieved a positive impact in your community.

What Does Closing My Petition Mean?
You can close your petition when you want to end it. Reasons may vary, for example:

  • You need to stop receiving signatures because you have reached the required number for delivery to the decision-maker.
  • You want to temporarily pause your petition activities.
  • You didn’t meet your goal but still want to keep the petition page visible for reference (e.g., by journalists).

Note: Petitions with fewer than 10 signatures are not publicly visible unless the page URL is shared. Therefore, you may not need to declare victory or close your petition unless you have gathered 10 or more signatures.

How to Declare Victory

  1. Log in to your Change.org account
  2. Go to the petition dashboard (My petition in top menu > Selethe ct the petition you want to declare victory)
  3. Click [Declare Victory] at the top of the dashboard
*If your petition has fewer than 10 signatures, it’s not publicly visible. You can still proceed by clicking [Declare your victory] at the bottom of the page.
  4. On the next page, write a message to thank your signers or share how you reached victory.
  5. Once you're done, click [Declare victory] at the bottom of the page.
