Creating a Change.org account is completely free and takes just a few minutes. With a Change.org account, you can sign petitions, start your own campaigns, track petitions you have supported, and manage your email preferences.
How to create your Change.org account
You can create a Change.org account in two ways, and both are completely free:
- By registering directly on the Change.org website
- By signing a petition
If you create an account through the website directly, you can immediately access the following features:
- Sign petitions while logged in
- Start your own petitions
- View the petitions you have previously supported
- Manage your email notification settings
If your account is created by signing a petition, you will be able to access the same features after verifying your email using a verification code or by setting a password.
Either way, once your account is active you can sign petitions, start your own campaigns, view petitions you have previously supported, and manage your email notification settings.
Follow these steps to create a new Change.org account via the account creation page
1. Go to the Change.org homepage
Visit the Change.org homepage in your web browser.
2. Click "Log in" in the top right corner
This opens the account login and signup page.
From here, you have multiple options. You can choose to create an account using your existing Google or facebook account, or create one using your email ID.
To create an account using Google/Facebook, just click on the login with Google/Facebook option.
Alternatively, if you want to create an account using your email address:
3. Enter your email address
Type your email address in the "Email address" field and click “Continue.”
4. Create a password
If this is a new email address, you will be prompted to create a password for your Change.org account. Enter a secure password and click “Continue.”
5. Enter your name
Provide your first and last name. This is how your name will appear on petitions you sign and on your Change.org profile. Click "Continue" to complete the registration.
Once you complete these steps, your Change.org account is created and you will be taken to the Change.org homepage where you can start signing or creating petitions.
Note: If the email address you enter is already associated with a Change.org account, you will be prompted to enter a one-time verification code sent to that address instead of creating a new account. You can click "Use password instead" to log in with your password.
If you signed a petition before creating an account
When you sign a petition on Change.org without being logged in, a Change.org account is automatically created using the email address you provided during signing. To access this account:
- Go to the Change.org login page
- Enter the email address you used when signing the petition
- Click "Set or Change Password" on the login page
- Check your email for the password reset link
- Create a password to access your account
Once you set your password, you can log in and access your account, including any petitions you have previously signed.
Why email verification matters
When you sign petitions on Change.org, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your signature. This verification process:
- Ensures each signature represents a real person
- Prevents duplicate or fraudulent signatures
- Helps petition starters demonstrate genuine support
- Maintains the integrity of Change.org petitions
If you sign a petition while logged in to your Change.org account, your signature is confirmed immediately without needing to click a confirmation email link.
