Why does Change.org ask for a donation after signing a petition?

In certain markets, after you sign a petition, Change.org offers you the chance to make a donation to help promote it. The donation is made to the Change.org Charitable Foundation, a 501c3 based in the US. For every donation made to the Change.org Charitable Foundation, Change.org, PBC (a public benefit corporation incorporated in Delaware in the US and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Change.org Charitable Foundation) will match the donation by showing the petition to users on its platform, email channels, and other channels.

Your donation helps increase the visibility of the petition, making it more likely that others will see it and add their signatures. The larger your contribution, the greater the potential reach.

All donations made to the Change.org Charitable Foundation on the Change.org platform are subject to the Change.org platform terms of service, which can be found here.

How do I make a donation?

After you sign a petition, you'll see the option to make a one-time donation to the Change.org Charitable Foundation.

Choose your donation amount.

Enter your payment details.

You'll receive a donation receipt once your payment is processed.

What payment platform does Change.org use?

We use Stripe, a secure service for processing donations. All transactions are handled in accordance with Stripe's Terms of Service.

What payment methods are accepted?

We currently accept credit card payments.

Does Change.org store my card information?

No. However, if you give consent, Stripe can securely store your payment details so you don't have to enter them each time you donate. For more info, please refer to Stripe's Terms of Service.

Is there a commission on donations?

No. Our payment platform does not charge any additional fees on your donation.

What is your donation refund policy?

We offer a full refund within 3 months of donation, no questions asked.

To request a refund, contact our support team here or at help@change.org.

Are donations to the Change.org Charitable Foundation tax-deductible?

Donations to Change.org Charitable Foundation may not be tax advantageous to all donors — please check with your tax advisor.
