How to sign a Change.org petition After you sign: Optional screens Why log in before signing? How to check if your signature was counted Frequently Asked Questions Do I need to create a Change.org account to sign? Can someone hack into my account and sign petitions without my permission?

Signing a petition on Change.org is simple and free. Your signature adds your voice to causes you care about, helping petition starters demonstrate support for their campaigns. This guide walks you through the complete signing process, from finding a petition to confirming your signature.

How to sign a Change.org petition

Follow these steps to sign your first petition on Change.org:

  1. Find a petition you want to support. You can browse petitions on the Change.org homepage, use the search feature, or click a link someone shared with you.
  2. Enter your information. On the petition page, you will see a form on the right side (or below the petition on mobile). Enter your first name, last name, and email address. If you are already logged in to your Change.org account, your information will be pre-filled. You will also see an optional field to fill in your address information. If you choose not to fill this, it will be auto-filled using your IP address.
  3. Click the Sign button. After entering your information, click the Sign button to submit your signature.
  4. Confirm your signature via email (if not logged in). If you were not logged in when you signed, Change.org will send you a confirmation email. Click the confirmation link in that email to make your signature count. If you signed while logged into your Change.org account, your signature is confirmed automatically.

After you sign: Optional screens

After signing a petition on Change.org, you may see screens asking you to share the petition or contribute to help promote it. These screens are completely optional. Your signature counts whether or not you share or contribute.

To skip these screens:

● Look for a link that says something like "I can't do anything now" or "Skip" at the bottom of the screen

● Return to the petition page by clicking the “Back” button on your browser

● You can also simply close the browser window or tab

Your signature will be recorded regardless of whether you take any additional action. Sharing or contributing is entirely your choice and is not required for your signature to count.

Why log in before signing?

If you log in to your Change.org account before signing a petition, your signature is counted immediately without needing email confirmation. This happens because Change.org has already verified your email address when you created your account.

If you sign without being logged in, Change.org needs to verify that you have access to the email address you provided. That is why you receive a confirmation email with a link to click.

How to check if your signature was counted

To verify that your signature was successfully recorded on Change.org:

  1. Log in to your Change.org account
  2. Go to your profile and look for a "Signed" or "My Petitions" section
  3. The petition should appear in your list of signed petitions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create a Change.org account to sign?

Signing a petition will create a Change.org account for you if you do not already have one. The account is free. When you sign for the first time, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your signature. In the future, if you log in before signing, your signatures will be counted immediately without needing email confirmation.

Can someone hack into my account and sign petitions without my permission?

No. Your Change.org account only allows you to sign petitions on Change.org, and no signature will be added to any petition without your permission. Each signature requires you to click the Sign button and/or confirm via email.
