Commenting on petitions
Table of Contents
Leaving a comment on a Change.org petition lets you share why you support the cause. Your comment appears publicly on the petition page, helping others understand the impact of the issue and encouraging more people to sign.
Before you comment
To leave a comment on a Change.org petition, you must first sign it. Comments are only available to supporters who have added their signature. This ensures that all comments on petitions come from people who genuinely support the cause.
How to add a comment
If you've already signed a petition and want to add a comment, follow these steps while logged into your Change.org account:
- Click on "My petitions" at the top of the page.
- Select the "Signed" tab to view petitions you've supported.
- Find and click on the petition you want to comment on.
- Click the "Take the next step!" button.
- On the next page, scroll down and click "Sorry, I can't do anything right now."
- On the screen that says "Amplify your signature by adding your voice!", click the "Write a comment" button.
- Type your comment and submit it.
You can also go directly to the petition’s actions page by visiting:
https://www.change.org/p/{petition-slug}/actions
If you’re not signed in or haven’t signed the petition yet, the site will prompt you to do so before allowing you to comment.
How to delete your comment
If you want to remove a comment you've left on a Change.org petition, follow these steps while logged into your account:
- Click on "My petitions" at the top of the page.
- Select the "Signed" tab.
- Find the petition with the comment you want to delete.
- Add /c to the end of the petition URL to display all comments directly (for example: www.change.org/p/yourpetition/c).
- Locate your comment and click the trash can icon on the right side to delete it.
Can I edit my comment?
Change.org does not currently allow editing comments after they are posted. If you want to change what you wrote, you'll need to delete your existing comment and add a new one with your updated message.
Important notes about comments
● Closed petitions: You cannot sign or add comments to petitions that have been closed or marked as a victory.
● Reporting comments: If you see a comment that violates Change.org's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, you can report it by clicking the "Report" button under the comment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I comment on a petition I disagree with?
If you disagree with a petition and don't want to sign, your options are to start your own counter-petition, report the petition if it violates Change.org's guidelines, or contact the petition starter through other means if they've provided contact information, such as their X or Facebook page in their profile.
Why can't I find the comment button on a petition?
If you can't see the option to comment, check if: (1) You have signed the petition - only signers can comment; (2) The petition is still open - closed or victory petitions don't accept new comments; (3) You're logged into your Change.org account. Comments on petitions may also be disabled in case: (1) The petition starter requested that comments be disabled; (2) There were a lot of comments in the petition that violated our Community Guidelines.
Why was my comment removed from a petition?
Comments may be removed if they violate Change.org's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. If you believe your comment was removed in error, you can contact Change.org support for assistance.
Will the petition starter see my comment?
Yes. Comments appear publicly on the petition page. Petition starters, other supporters, and anyone viewing the petition page can see all comments left by signers.
