What does it mean to promote a petition?
Promoted Petitions are advertisements, allowing you to have your favorite petitions discovered by thousands of potential supporters. Similar to boosted posts on Facebook or sponsored tweets on Twitter, promoted petitions let you pay to show any petition (including your own) to other potential supporters on Change.org or our distribution channels.
By chipping in to promote a petition, a supporter can help a petition be seen by far more people, and get more support. Promotions are available for most petitions on Change.org and anyone can chip in, from the petition starter to signers.
Promoting a petition does not guarantee that the petition will get more signatures. It only means that more people will see the petition, and therefore are more likely to sign it.
In short: by chipping in, a supporter can help the petition continue to gain momentum, and get it closer to winning.
On average in the US or the UK, for $100 invested by promotions, a petition will be featured to 2,000 people on the Change.org website or via email.
How to promote a petition
- Once you’ve signed the petition, you’ll be asked to chip in. If you’d like to promote the petition, click the “Yes, I’ll chip in…” button!
- Next, you’ll see a page that allows you to decide how much to chip in, and how many views each amount buys. You can even preview what people will see!
- Next, enter your payment details and confirm the payment.
Once you’ve gone through those steps, you’re done! You’ve made it so that more people can see (and hopefully sign) the petition you’re supporting!
You will also be asked if you would like to become a monthly member. You can read more about memberships here. If you’d rather not become a member at this time, you can simply finish your one time contribution just below the button.
About Promoted Petitions on Change.org
Adding your name to a petition can be a bold act of solidarity and support. And by getting even more people to sign it, you increase the petition’s chance of winning.
With Promoted Petitions, you can support a petition with more than just your own signature – it’s a way to put your money toward making a difference too. By promoting a petition, you’re ensuring that the petition will be displayed to a wider network of people, so more people can sign it.
With more signatures, a petition can become truly influential. The media is more likely to cover the story of the petition. There is more public pressure for an official response. There is a better chance of winning.
As you use Change.org, you may see petitions that have been promoted by other Change.org users.
Example of Promoted Petition ads on Change.org
Change.org may display Promoted Petitions within our website, email, and/or other distribution channels like social media.
As part of the Change.org community, you can choose to chip in to promote a petition – whether it’s a petition you signed or one you started yourself. In that way, promoting a petition is a “crowdfunded” effort to expand the reach of the petition.
