The content on Change.org represents the many opinions of our more than 500 million users. Change.org does not fact-check or endorse any of the campaigns or other user-generated content on our platform.

Our role is to make sure the Change.org platform is a powerful vehicle for change while remaining as safe as possible for our users.

Change.org does not allow content that violates our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. If you happen to see something in violation, please contact us using the steps outlined below, and we will investigate.

How to report a petition

To report a Change.org petition for violation of our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, log in to your Change.org account and follow these steps:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the petition description and click on the "Report a policy violation" button located below the comments section
  2. This button opens a menu where you will select a category for your report
  3. Before you can make a submission, you must include a reason for your report. The more specific you can be with your reason for reporting content, the more equipped the Support team will be when assessing your claim

How to report a comment

To report a comment for violation of Change.org Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, log in to your Change.org account and follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the comment that you wish to report
  2. Click on the "Report" button under the comment to open the reporting menu
  3. Select a category for your report
  4. Before you can make a submission, you must include a reason for your report. The more specific you can be with your reason for reporting content, the more equipped the Support team will be when assessing your claim

What happens after you report

Reported petitions and comments are reviewed in the order in which they are received. Please only submit a single report - reporting multiple times will not have any impact on the order in which we review your report.

If Change.org needs to collect further information regarding your report, we will contact you. When you make a report, your identity will be shared with Change.org so we can follow up if necessary, but it will not be shared with the petition starter.

Once you have submitted a report, our team will individually review the reported content or account. If we determine that the content or account is in violation of our Community Guidelines, we will take action. This action can range from warning the user to removing their content or permanently disabling their account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I disagree with a petition but it doesn't violate the guidelines?

Change.org is an open platform, and we invite all points of view to join and support the change they want to see in the world, as long as they are following our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. If you come across a petition you disagree with but doesn't violate our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, a great option is to create your own petition at https://www.change.org/start-a-petition to gather support for an opposing view.
